Restarting my overview of external activities with events and publications between January and March 2026. Despite our Christmas & annual holidays, it was a busy period between AI, data, digital sovereignity and better regulation.

The first full week of Technical Meetings on the AI Omnibus is over and we are coming closer to the finish line. Strasburg next week will be decisive. Despite the super ambitious timeline, there is an actual chance that the parliamentarians will strike a compromise in time. This would allow the co-legislators to start the trilogue in April as planned.

The DRTs cover the policy activities & conclusions of Member States aiming at increasing the EU's digital sovereignity. It thereby focus on meetings of the European Council, the TTE Council (Telecom Formation), and exceptional digital summits that are organised by a group of EU Member States. The series was started in 2025 with the Digital Sovereignty Summit on 18 November 2025.

Over the last two weeks, I have published three additional publications: a history of foundation model legislation with Oxford University Press, a WEF op-ed on industrial AI, and a Top 20 list of Digital Laws with CEPS.
